Wild Pine Event - Film Only
Saturday 21 March 3pm-3.30pm
Join us at Dundreggan for a special event celebrating Scotland’s remarkable Caledonian pinewoods. We’re delighted to be screening the recent short film The Pine Hunters.
The 15 minute film follows the Wild Pine Project, which seeks out and documents fragments of Caledonian pinewood that have long been forgotten. After the screening, there will be time for a Q&A with Jane Sayers, Wild Pine Project Officer.
Caledonian pinewoods are iconic habitats, home to some of Scotland’s rarest wildlife, yet today they cover only around 2% of their former range. Some of the most threatened pinewoods are not yet recognised by the Caledonian Pinewood Inventory, the Scottish Government’s official register. Launched in 2023, the Wild Pine Project works to discover and assess these ‘lost’ pinewoods, often hidden in steep gorges or scattered through old birchwood.
In The Pine Hunters, our ecologists travel to some of the most remote parts of the Highlands, seeking out the last remnants of this ancient forest. By mapping these sites and recording their condition, the project helps bring them to light so that future restoration is possible.
Please note: There is also a guided walk with Jane immediately before the film screening, 2pm-3pm, exploring the landscape and history of Dundreggan's own pinewoods. If you are interested in also joining this guided walk, please book your ticket from the following link instead: https://treesforlife.digitickets.co.uk/event-tickets/74946
